Health can sometimes be taken for granted as we often take care of diseases when they occur but never really try to prevent them from the start. This sort of thinking motivated me at 14 yrs old, as I was overweight and concerned about what the future held. The best investment you can make is in your own health and I was squandering it by making unwise dietary decisions and being chronically sedentary.
In the summer of 2013, I decided to make a change. I would be lying if I said it was easy because it was anything but easy. The first change I made was an adjustment to my dietary habits. I shifted my consumption of processed foods to more whole foods. After a couple of weeks, I felt more energy and less gastrointestinal discomfort.
My next main focus was increasing my activity level. My main means of exercise mostly consisted of running as it seemed like the most readily available option and can be done literally anywhere. The exercise presented a new challenge and I often found myself dreading it every single time, but I stuck to it and began to reap the benefits of my newly changed lifestyle.
My change in lifestyle has been the main inspiration in supporting lifestyle change in others and why I feel health shouldn’t be taken for granted. Fortunately, I have received the opportunity to do just that, with an MA in the medical field I am able to help people improve their health and truly lead healthy lives.
